About

This blog was created because of the lack of diversity on other interracial blogs. We wanted to see couples who looked like us. Sure some of the couples had similar experiences, but it just wasn’t the same. We wanted to talk about our experiences as a couple, and talk to other couples. We wanted to encourage interaction between Asian men and Black women, so that hopefully more AMBW couples can be formed. We wanted to break down stereotypes, dismiss fetishization, give advice, and show that AMBW couples are around, and we are just like any other couple.

AMBW is one of the least common interracial pairings. With the negative stereotypes about us, and our coupling RARELY being shown in the media, most people have never seen an Asian male/Black female couple, let alone couples happily married and starting families. We are hopeful that this blog has opened up a few minds, and hearts, and maybe even helped a few people get together.

When did you guys become a couple?
Mackenzi: Leap Day 2012! We went to a house party and danced together.
Yuchen: March 2. Official asking out
How did you guys meet?
We had mutual friends and talked at a party once but then didn’t talk again until I (Mackenzi) messaged him on facebook because I remembered he was cute. We started chatting on fb and went to a lecture and a party together that same week.Where do you live? Do you get stares?
Mackenzi: We live in Colorado Springs which is pretty conservative except for our school. We do get stares at our school but we don’t go off campus that much in Colorado Springs but some stares in Boulder.
Yuchen: Colorado Springs. We get stares from groups of Asian kids in Boulder.
Where was your first date?
On leap day we went to a house party but 2 weeks later we had an official date of movie mini golf and Korean food. It was amazing. I (Mackenzi) won at golf and the people at the restaurant thought Yuchen was Korean. (He’s Chinese)
What do your parents (both sets) think of your relationship?
Mackenzi: My mom loves Yuchie. She thinks he is a sweetheart. My mom is happy when I am happy so she doesn’t care who I’m dating as long as they are good to me.
Yuchen: No Comment~(Mackenzi-His mom hates me)
What’s the sweetest thing you’ve ever done for each other?
Mackenzi: While we were doing this interview I was feeding him pineapple lol.  I do lots of sweet things J  Apparently though it was really sweet when I held him and told him I didn’t want to be without him.
Yuchen: When she was crying late one night I came over just to hold her.
Do you have any advice for those seeking an AMBW relationship?
Yuchen: Disregard what other people think or say about your race difference and if you like the person give your all to them.
Mackenzi: What he said. Love that person fully and pay no attention to stares or racism.
