How did you two meet and when did you guys offically become a couple?

We actually met through the bwamu(black women asian men unite)website. Ashleigh noticed me first. and as time went on. we started to talk more. and got to know each other. we officially became a couple on Feb 7 2011
Ashleigh:He didnt notice me cause he was too busy being angry at his ex. Only when he found out we were from the same place he really started talking to me.

Where was your first date?

Our first date/interview was the night i came down to FL. we went to Crabby Jacks for drinks and then to Brus Room for more drinks. lol. thats where Ashleigh first danced up on me. and i fell in love. lmao jk. then the next night we ended up going to club Opium where we had the time of our lives. 


What do your parents (both sets) think about your relationship?

Kerry:My parents are ok with it. my mom loves Ashleigh. that is her drinkin buddy lol i think her family has accepted me also. 
Ashleigh: My family doesnt mind who I date as long as I am happy.

Whats the most romantic thing you’ve ever done for each other?

Kerry:The most romantic thing. hmm. its not nothing extremely crazy. but to me at least. i took her out to dinner. after that we saw a movie. just treated her like a queen for the night. 
Ashleigh: Took Kerry for a week to Hawaii. We had so much fun. Did not wanna come back home. Now I wanna move there.

Whats features are you most attracted to when it comes to your bf/gf?

Kerry:Her smile, her personality and her body. She makes me laugh smile and feel good. 
Ashleigh:His smile, his hands and his arms. They are all so yummy.

One thing most AMBW couples have in common is that most feel that they get stared at quite frequently, do you guys feel the same?

Kerrry:I know for a fact we get stared at. By all outside parties lol. but it doesnt affect us. or how we are towards each other in public. Peoples business will be there business. im not gonna change up nothing because they got a staring problem. We arent some kind of new species. i dunno why people are staring at us. LOL
Ashleigh: The only time I really notice anything is when we are in the club. Most of the stares come from African-American men.

Have you ever received any offensive comments about you two as an interracial couple? If so, what was your reaction?

Kerry:Honestly i have never recieved any negative comments physically. online on like youtube and stuff you have trolls and stuff. but other then that, not that i can think of. 
Ashleigh:Really only get negative comments on Youtube. I just delete them and keep going.

I know you guys have a youtube channel, what advice do you give to other AMBW couples who are thinking about starting one themselves?

Kerry:Just be yourself. Dont try to change for anyone. Words will be words. People will always hate on you. The world is the biggest misperfection. So dont fall victim to it. Just be yourself and enjoy each other’s company.
Ashleigh:Also, keep the videos interesting and dont give out too much personal informations cause you got creepers all over the internet.

Do you have any advice for those seeking an AMBW relationship?

Kerry: Just be who you are. Thats the best advice i can give. He/She will like the person you are. Dont try to be something you’re not. Just be you. Thats all I did. Thats all i have ever done. Now im lucky enough to have a beautiful girlfriend.

karatruman asked: idk if you got my first question or not but why do you think there are more BMAW couples then there are AMBW i always wondered is it because asian women are more out going to that outside there race then asian men?

I think there are a few factors that come into play with this

Some Asian men come from traditional Asian families. In the majority of those families dating outside of your race is looked down upon. From a young age some parents tell their children that they must marry a person of the same ethnicity and to never date  outside of their race. Even if they are allowed to date outside of their race, the parents would usually say they can marry someone white or of lighter skin tones. Darker skin was looked down upon because usually people of darker skin were poor, and were dark because they’d work outside. 

When you get married, the woman is supposed to be coming into the family. Some Asian parents do not put as much pressure into their daughters dating choices because the daughter will marry and pretty much become apart of her husbands family. The son is the one who carries on the family name, he would be bringing someone who is not like them into the family. The ideal person they’d want to have their name would be someone of the same race. They want someone who more easily understands their culture, tradition, and language, who better than someone who was brought up in it? Most of the time the son will be taking care of his parents until they pass away, and his wife is supposed to as well. The parents want someone who knows their culture and language, it just makes things easier if you’re going to be taking care of them. 

I think the biggest factor other than their family, would have to be the media. The media plays a huge role into the way most people think. If an Asian man (and his family) had no interaction with black women, he’d most likely go by what the media told him. According to the media, we are loud, welfare queens, with 6 babies and 7 baby daddies, we have no hair, all we want to do is fight, and we all want a big thugged out black guy with a huge penis…. That’s not true right? They wouldn’t know that. Honestly, what man in his right mind would want the woman I described? Which is why I always promote REAL interaction. I want people outside of their comfort zones, and to prove society wrong. 

A lot of the time I get reactions like “wow I didn’t know Black women liked Asian men” or “I never even thought about Asian men and Black women being together” and they’re right…. when most people think of interracial dating, we are the LAST coupling you’d expect to see together. It just isn’t done. You rarely see in the media or in real life. If most people didn’t stumble upon these blogs and groups mistakenly, or seen an AMBW couple before, they’ve just never thought about it…. Lets change that. 

I wish both sides would just stop being pussies and get together already, SHEESH!!

We are both 23.

How and when did you guys become a couple? 

We became a couple in high school and we were together for over seven years before tying the knot.

Flip: I saw Goat and then got to know him some more and had to have him… HAD TO.  

Where do you live? 

We both live in Georgia. 

Do you get stares? 

Yes, we do get stares, a lot of stares. Actually while at Hmart, a Korean grocery store, we almost caused an accident when a woman did a double-take to make sure she was seeing what she was seeing. We get a lot of double-takes. 

Where was your first date? 

Our first date was at a Regal Movie Theater.

What do your parents (both sets) think about your relationship? 

Well, both our parents had their respective reservations at first, but now they are accepting of the relationship and now we are really close to each other’s respective families. 

Have you ever received any offensive comments about you two as an interracial couple? 

No, not really. One person thought that we were just dating because it’s a fad or a phase or whatever, but other than that nothing really is said to us. I mean, we do live in the south and I am pretty sure whatever they want to say is said behind closed doors.
What is your favorite thing about each other?

Goat:  I like her eyes. They are really expressive. I can tell when she’s happy, when she’s sad, when she’s angry, and when she wants me to come hither. Her booty would be second… maybe tied. 

Flip: My favorite thing about Goat are his eyes, too. They look so honest, hopeful and warm. They were what drew me to him in the first place. He is such a great guy and so loving. 

 Whats the sweetest thing you’ve done for each other?  

Goat: When I was worried about not being able to do well, she helps to give another perspective. She is always there whether I am down mentally, physically, or whatever. I know I can always call her no matter what. 

Flip: This is kind of hard since we have been together for so long. The sweetest thing that he’s ever done for him is when I had to stay at a computer lab and I was really hungry, but I knew that he was working on stuff for his computer science class. He surprised me and brought a bunch of food, a sweater and lots of hugs and kisses, along with his work. The man is just plain amazing and thoughtful. 

Do you have any advice for those seeking an AMBW relationship? 

Flip: I personally think that you shouldn’t really go around seeking a type of relationship, but rather a type of person. I knew that I wanted someone who was family oriented, soft spoken, and would be able to reciprocate the love given. 

Goat: I would say the same, don’t go out thinking, “I want an Asian dude, or a black chick,” because you want a person. You want the things that you want and you might find that in a White guy, or an Asian guy, or a Hispanic, or vice versa in females. But specifically in Asian men and Black women, I would say keep an open mind and if your parents don’t approve, if they have reasonable reasons for not approving then you can work through those, but if they’re racist — actually you can probably work through that too. Don’t just kick your parents out, they do care for you, so their advice and stuff does matter and such. Other than that try to keep an open mind and communicate a lot, because you come from different backgrounds, so you’ll have to compromise some times.
